Circle's USYC seeks Canton Featured App status

CantonNews (August 27, 2026): Circle's USYC has applied for Featured App status on Canton, with Digital Asset sponsoring the application published on August 27. USYC is already live on Canton and serves financial institutions—the token represents an investment in a money-market fund that invests in U.S. Treasury bills and short-term lending backed by U.S. government securities. The application proposes rewards for trading, using USYC as collateral, and issuing or redeeming it in exchange for USDC, Circle's U.S. dollar stablecoin. Featured App status would make qualifying activity eligible for Canton Coin rewards.

Virtu, Tradeweb, and M1X complete first onchain repo with Marshall Islands sovereign digital bond on Canton

Tradeweb / Securities Finance Times (August 27, 2026): Virtu Financial, M1X Global, and Tradeweb completed the first fully onchain repo in which the securities leg was a natively issued sovereign digital bond—USDM1, a U.S. dollar-denominated instrument issued onchain by the Republic of the Marshall Islands and backed 1:1 by short-dated U.S. Treasuries in bankruptcy-remote custody. Executed bilaterally on Tradeweb between regulated institutional counterparties on Canton Network, securities delivery, cash leg, and return settled atomically onchain without prime-broker intermediation; the full repo and repurchase cycle completed in under 10 minutes. USDM1 is structured under New York law as a fully collateralized sovereign obligation, classified as a UCC Article 8 investment security eligible for ISDA and GMRA close-out netting, and pays a coupon while used as collateral. Institutional custody is available through Anchorage Digital, BitGo, and tZERO. The transaction follows Tradeweb's July Canton repo using tokenized U.S. Treasuries against USDCx and August network activity including cross-chain swaps and native USD1 issuance.

Sixteen validator applications open for Canton community review until September 2

CantonNews (August 27, 2026): Sixteen organizations have submitted applications to operate Canton validators, with community review open until September 2, 2026. Published August 26, the batch spans eight jurisdictions and covers wallets, tokenized assets, payments, wallet infrastructure, real-estate tokenization, and services for financial institutions. Japan's BOOSTRY plans Canton wallets and onboarding for Japanese financial institutions, building on its ibet for Fin digital-securities network work. Abu Dhabi-based 3ERA targets tokenized asset creation and trading; Radius Research focuses on institutional applications in Asia. Community members may raise concerns or request discussion during the review window—applications are treated as approved if no concerns are raised by the deadline. MainNet operation also requires network access and setup with a sponsoring operator; developers are encouraged to test on dev and test networks first. Source: lists.sync.global.

Alpend integrates Temple order books for collateral sales during liquidations

CantonNews (August 27, 2026): Alpend has integrated Temple's trading system and order books into its early-access lending market on Canton, adding a venue for selling collateral during liquidations. Borrowers on Alpend Market post assets as loan security; if a loan falls below collateral requirements, an approved liquidator can repay part of the debt in exchange for collateral plus a bonus to cover risk and costs, with per-transaction liquidation limits. Routing collateral sales through Temple's order books is intended to narrow the gap between expected and realized prices, recover more value during liquidations, and help manage risk for users supplying funds to Alpend's lending pools.

mperps introduces Canton perpetual trading with Aster

CantonNews (August 27, 2026): mperps has launched a perpetual-trading platform on Canton—orders match on Aster while account balances are recorded on Canton. Perpetual contracts let traders take directional positions without a fixed expiry; listed contracts cover Bitcoin, Ether, Canton Coin, gold, and U.S. stocks (price exposure without share ownership). Digital Asset details Canton post-quantum security plans for the next 6–12 months

CantonNews (August 27, 2026): Canton plans to introduce quantum-resistant security methods over the next six to twelve months as it prepares for advances in quantum computing. NIST finalized post-quantum standards in 2024; ML-DSA for digital signatures is already available on Canton through an experimental setting, with several partners testing it. Digital Asset intends to use Canton's extensible cryptography to extend quantum-resistant protection across core network services, including encryption, additional signing schemes, and support from wallets, exchanges, and developer tools—with further partner work expected toward end-2026. The six-to-twelve-month target covers adding the new algorithms; the broader migration plan for users and applications is still being developed.

Canton Foundation publishes Development Fund roadmap through 2028

CantonNews (August 27, 2026): The Canton Foundation published its Development Fund roadmap through 2028, outlining 28 priority areas where teams can apply for funding to improve Canton. Priorities include simpler validator onboarding, changing the provider hosting a Canton account, better tools for builders and testers, shared identity standards that let applications recognize checks completed by another provider, independent security reviews, key management, coordinated incident response, and ways to verify trading volumes and market figures while keeping transaction details private. The fund is supported by 5% of new Canton Coin issuance; between September 2026 and September 2027, the Foundation aims to direct 80% of its Development Fund budget to roadmap proposals, reserving up to 20% for work outside the published list. Targets for 2028 include at least 1,000 applications and 10,000 validator nodes. Payments follow milestone acceptance.
