OpenZeppelin publishes open-source Daml development stack for Canton review

Canton Network Forum / OpenZeppelin (August 12, 2026): OpenZeppelin released the first public repos of its open-source Daml development stack for Canton—seeking community feedback before audit. The release includes a Daml contracts library implementing CIP-112 token and settlement standards plus architecture documents for four reference designs: privacy-preserving DEX, lending protocol, cross-chain stablecoin payments, and confidential auction launchpad (implementation code follows in the next milestone). Components are not yet audited; full security audit is planned after community review. Engineering Manager Pepe Blasco invited builders to clone repos, read design reports, and open issues.

Broadridge DLR processed $8T in repo volume during July on Canton

CantonNews (August 11, 2026): Broadridge Financial Solutions processed $8 trillion in repo transactions through its Distributed Ledger Repo (DLR) platform in July—averaging $365 billion daily, up 28% year over year—with collateral tokenized and moved between counterparties while financing runs on the ledger without replacing existing trading and post-trade systems. Monthly DLR totals in 2026 include $7.3T (January), nearly $8T (March and April), $7.2T (May), $7.5T (June), and $8T (July); Broadridge also made DLR market data available to Bloomberg Terminal subscribers in July. Global head of digital innovation Horacio Barakat said tokenization is becoming part of how institutions manage liquidity and collateral. The scale reinforces Canton's institutional repo footprint alongside earlier 2026 cross-border intraday repo involving DTCC, Euroclear, Tradeweb, Citadel Securities, and Société Générale on tokenized UK gilts.

CantonNews guide: how Canton Network governs itself through the CIP process

CantonNews (August 11, 2026): A new explainer walks through Canton Improvement Proposals—the open, documented path for protocol, governance, and tokenomics changes with no single-entity veto. With 117+ CIPs approved, the piece covers five categories (Standards Track, Governance, Tokenomics, Process, Informational), minimum discussion windows (e.g., three months for Standards Track), working-group review, sponsorship by two Super Validators, a 10-day SV vote requiring two-thirds supermajority of rights holders, and phased DevNet→TestNet→MainNet implementation before Final status. Highlights include CIP-0056/0112 token standards, CIP-0078 zero transfer fees, CIP-0103 dApp Standard, and CIP-0117 Logical Synchronizers replacing multi-hour upgrade halts. Canton leads all blockchains in 30-day fee generation at $53.35M (DeFiLlama)

CantonNews (August 10, 2026): DeFiLlama data shows Canton Network generated $53.35 million in fees over the past 30 days—ranking first among all L1 and L2 blockchains tracked, ahead of Hyperliquid ($32.03M) and Tron ($26.79M). Figures cover traffic purchases, preapproval burns, setup burns, dust expiry, holding fees, and sender change fees; under Canton's model every fee is burned in full with no protocol retention. Seven-day fees totaled $10.35M ($1.46M in the latest 24h). The ranking places Canton ahead of Ethereum and Solana in the current fee tier as institutional deployment scales—DTCC tokenization live since July 15 ahead of an October 2026 broader launch, Nasdaq Calypso collateral pilots, and phased JPMorgan Kinexys JPM Coin integration. CantonNews insight: tokenized deposits vs stablecoins for global payroll FX

CantonNews (August 10, 2026): A deep-dive contrasts stablecoins (privately issued, GENIUS Act–regulated bearer tokens needing per-currency issuers and thin off-ramp liquidity outside ~8 major currencies) with tokenized deposits (FDIC-insured bank liabilities on-chain, inheriting interbank FX distribution). The piece argues global contractor payouts need bank-grade currency reach—not just crypto-exchange distribution—and highlights Canton as the settlement rail banks converge on: HSBC tokenized-deposit pilots, Lloyds sterling deposits buying tokenized gilts, and JPMorgan Kinexys bringing JPM Coin natively onto Canton through 2026, alongside DTCC, Euroclear, BNY Mellon, LSEG DiSH, and Broadridge. Parallel efforts include The Clearing House's 2027 shared deposit network and Swift's July 2026 17-bank tokenized cross-border ledger.

Silvana V2 and a redesigned Trading Terminal are live; recent additions include Lattice Wallet integration and EarnHub campaign UX updates (clickable cards, task categories, leaderboard mechanics—points have no guaranteed cash value).
